STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS
The Pawtucket Foundation and the City of Pawtucket contracted Thurlow Small Architecture to complete the Pawtucket Downtown Design Plan, which includes guidelines to encourage bicycle use and pedestrian activity near retail by installing bike racks, benches, waste receptacles, planters, plantings and banners. The Pawtucket Foundation received a Community Development Block Grant for two Streetscape Enhancement Projects in downtown. Armory Arts District Streetscape Improvement Project In August, 2013, the Pawtucket Foundation and the Armory Arts District Streetscape Committee designed and installed Armory Arts District banners, landscaping enhancements and gateway improvements. Downtown Public Space The Pawtucket Foundation also introduced two programs in 2016 to activate public spaces in downtown with yoga classes, grow boxes and green art. The Foundation also developed a proposal for a “clean and safe” improvement district, sustainable through federal programs that help put people to work. Pawtucket Proud Day The Foundation organizes, supplies and directs an annual city clean up day. Companies based in Pawtucket donate their staff time to a day of public space landscape and maintenance. It has become a tradition and promotes both civic engagement as well as city beautification.
