On June 21st the Pawtucket Foundation hosted part two of the Breakfast with the Foundation series, sponored by Citizens Bank. The session focused on planning, specifically Michael Cassidy, Director of Planning and Redevelopment at the City of Pawtucket. Mr. Cassidy will be retiring at the end of the month after forty years in city planning. Offering appreciation during the ceremony were: Thomas Mann, executive director of the Pawtucket Foundation; Kevin Flynn, Director of Statewide Planning; Edward Sanderson, executive director of the Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission and Foundation co-chairman Jack Partridge and Dan Sullivan. Cassidy was presented with gift handcrafted from recycled materials by local artist Gail Ahlers of Ahlers Designs.
The Pawtucket Foundation's first installment of Breakfast with the Foundation: Private support for public education drew 32 guests. The breakfast held on March 29, 2010 featured guest speaker, Thomas Quigeley, Principal of Hopewell Elementary School in nearby Taunton MA. Mr. Quigeley outlined the strategy Hopewell has used to earn Blue Ribbon status, recognizing the top 1% of school performance nationwide. This model relies on partnerships with local companies to implement tutoring and support programs. The topical series, Breakfast with the Foundation is sponsorsed by Citizens Bank.
